In January 2014, the City of Boston launched a groundbreaking participatory budgeting (PB) process to engage Boston youth in directly deciding how to spend $1 million of the city’s capital budget. Through participatory budgeting, thousands of young Bostonians identified projects to improve their communities, vetted those projects, considered trade-offs, and voted on how to spend the $1 million.
The winning projects can be found at boston.citizinvestor.com.
A new round of participatory budgeting will begin in 2015, with Mayor Walsh committing another $1 million in capital funds to be decided on by youth. To stay informed, please sign up below.
